The Mark: Exterior Curtain Wall Challenges and Solutions

Kevin Cole and Geoff Rossi with Harmon, Inc. will present exterior curtain wall challenges and solutions for one of Seattle's newest towers, The Mark. The following topics will be discussed.

• Design of the building's diagonal, stainless steel, brace cover which runs the full height of the building.
• The building's unique geometry that includes outward sloping, inward sloping, and variable vertical/horizontal angles to create16 different facets.
• Different strategies used to meet the stringent U-Factor requirements including the utilization of high performance glazing. 
• Installation and sequencing of the curtain wall units. 
• Unique weatherization detailing of the brace member joints which required consistent quality control.

Kevin Cole is the Director of Engineering and Design for Harmon, Inc. He leads a preconstruction engineering and design group that was responsible for the engineering and design of The Mark. His team includes designers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and 3D modelers.

Geoff Rossi is the Preconstruction Executive for Harmon's Northwest Region and was the General Manager of Harmon's Seattle office during construction of The Mark. He leads the effort to provide preconstruction services to architects, consultants, contractors, and owners.
