North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS) and Fenestration Field Testing

Jose Estrada PE, and Brad Carmichael PE, Assoc AIA, with JRS Engineering will present North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS) and Fenestration Field Testing at the February SeaBEC Meeting. 

This presentation is structured into two halves: The first half will provide an overview of the North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS), specifically as it pertains to the US market and US code compliance. They will also discuss a few areas related to NAFS that are frequently overlooked and discuss some approaches to address them.

The second half of this presentation dives into field testing, specifically the ASTM E1105 test method. The talk will review the technicalities of the test method, including procedures and definitions, and compare the test standard against the building science fundamentals that drive window design. They will highlight some areas in which the industry standard testing does not align with building science fundamentals and propose some resolutions.
