Understanding Building Performance Standards within Washington State

New laws that affect building performance standards have been enacted in Washington  State due to the impacts of climate change. In this presentation, Michael Arndt, with RDH Building Science Inc, will explain how these climate change-driven laws will affect design decisions for multifamily and commercial buildings, their occupants, reserve studies, and project budgets. He will also describe the incentive program and outline compliance deadlines, financial penalties for noncompliance, and required third-party vendors.    

Michael Arndt is a Project Technologist/Consultant at RDH Building Science Inc. in Seattle. RDH provides a multitude of services to building owners throughout the world focusing on making buildings better through the integration of science design, and construction expertise. Michael has been working in construction since his youth and has been a consultant in the construction field for over 15 years. His focus is on existing buildings and how to make them more resilient. He is the lead for RDH on the Clean Buildings Performance Standard and is involved in whole-building analysis, failure analysis of building components, building assessments, and is a Certified Infrared Thermographer. He manages renovation projects in Washington State from lighthouses, historic sites, towers, multi-family, and single-family homes.
