Summary:

There are typically several types of exterior doors on each project. Whether you’re responsible for construction drawings, quality control or field coordination, getting it right the first time can be a challenging task. Some exterior doors occur in the fire escape egress pathway, others need robust waterproofing, all of them should be air barrier compliant and others need to be ADA-accessible. This educational training will cover lessons learned and tips about back dams, transitions to bolt-on decks, door thresholds, air and water barriers and maintaining ADA on common door types such as hollow metal, storefront, single & multiple panel sliding doors and single swing doors.

Initial Course Outline:

  • Rough openings: wood & metal framing, concrete curbs & buck-outs
  • Door ‘sill pan’ waterproofing products and methods
  • Transitions at bolt-on decks, pavers and concrete
  • ADA door accessibility and water migration
  • Thermal & air barrier performance at door frames and thresholds

Types of doors covered: Hollow metal doors, storefront doors, single and multiple panel sliding doors, fiberglass and vinyl type swing doors
